May 21–July 18 18th International Arts Festival “STARS OF THE WHITE NIGHTS” Location: Mariinsky Theater As one of the year’s most attended musical events, the festival has become a pilgrimage for all lovers of Russian culture. May 25–June 4 Locations: Shostakovich Academic Philharmonic, Academic Cappella, Hermitage Theater, Mariinsky Theater Concert Hall The festival is an annual parade of the winners from the major international music competitions. It provides music-lovers with the priceless opportunity to hear the world’s best young musicians and to get acquainted with a wide range of schools and tendencies of contemporary performing art. In the parade halls of St. Petersburg’s palaces, the best works of classical music of different epochs will be performed by outstanding Russian and international performers. May 28–June 6 Location: Mikhailovsky Garden The aim of this festival is the revival of traditions connected with the history of St. Petersburg’s gardens, combined with modern tendencies in landscaping. August 25–September 5 Locations: St. Petersburg Theaters Theater schools from 20 countries will participate in the festival. The event is framed around an extensive educational program: forums, master classes, a UNIMA Commission conference on education, a special hands-on project for children, “Petrushkas (Punches) of the World at Tsarskoe Selo” - an interactive street carnival for children and adults, and a festival of street performances.
